You know, I’ve had a couple mental and emotional meltdowns and I’m not even thirty yet. So, trust me, it can happen to anyone of any age. Though life is beautiful and has amazing moments, there’s a lot of shit that comes with it.
Now’s the time to get it done because you finally realize the things missing in your life. But first, it’s time you figured out what’s really going on. Is this a midlife crisis? Is this just because I missed my period? Who knows, but here are the signs to help you figure it out. It happens to all of us.
#1 Your hormones have a lot to do with this. There’s a difference between men and women when it comes to midlife crises. For women, their midlife crisis can be heavily influenced by hormonal changes in the body, since there’s a shift towards menopause. #2 Your brain is working double-time at night. You may find yourself unable to sleep at night or you’re waking up a couple times through the night. You may be thinking about things you haven’t done in life or things you want to change. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing if you use these thoughts to actually change yourself. #3 You feel like you’re out of control. You’re not sure what’s happening to you, you feel like you may be going crazy. Maybe you forget things you usually wouldn’t, feel bursts of anger, or simply want to cry. Depending on your age, you may be experiencing a change in your body as it’s shifting into menopause. Thus, this makes you feel like you’re losing your mind.
#4 You’re freaking out about your health. You never took much notice to that mole on your shoulder, but now you think it’s cancer. Actually, you’re pretty sure it’s cancer. I get it. You’re past the age of not caring about your health and closer to the age where things start to pop up. But just because you’re in your late thirties or forties, doesn’t mean your life is over.

#5 You don’t see a bright future. There are times where we all think our future isn’t going to be that bright. But now that you’re older, maybe have a partner and children, you feel life is basically all planned out for you which can be a scary realization. What’s even better though, is that your life isn’t static. It can change if you want it to *or not*. This could also be a sign that you’re experiencing depression.
#6 You’re feeling grief. This may sound weird, but in some ways, it’s as though you’re grieving. You may not know exactly what it is that you lost, but deep inside, you feel deep sadness. If you’re experiencing the feeling of loss, you need to reflect and see what it is that you feel that you lost in life.
#7 You stopped caring about your looks. You feel that there’s no hope for you anymore. Sure, you were hot in your 20s, but now you’re older and you feel that you should just give up and throw on a pair of sweatpants. #8 You feel that you’ve aged. Well, sadly, this is inevitable. We’re all aging. But right now, you’re seeing every wrinkle on your face that much clearer. You stare at yourself in the mirror thinking, where did the time go? However, this isn’t going to help you through your crisis. Put the mirror down because aging is happening to all of us, this isn’t something you can change but rather have to accept.
#9 You don’t want to have sex. You used to want to have sex all the time. Now, you see no need to have it. This lowered sex drive could be attributed to hormonal changes which causes a low libido and vaginal dryness. #10 You became mentally old. You used to be full of spirit, but you stay at home, ignoring friends, and calling yourself an old lady. Which isn’t true, by the way. Allowing yourself to think that you’re old actually works in making you older. If you treat yourself like an elderly woman, you’re going to become one.
#11 You start to think about death more often. Death was never really on your mind until now. You’re wondering what happens after you die, thinking about how you will die. This is a crisis. Of course, it’s normal for people to think of these things. However, if these thoughts are a majority of the things you think about, you’re in a crisis.
#12 You feel no sense of excitement. When you were younger, you were wild. You partied until 6 am, meeting fun and new people, not caring about work the next day. And now, well, things have changed. You’re no longer that person anymore. In fact, you think you lost all sense of excitement in your life. But you haven’t. You simply need to change your views of what’s exciting. #13 It’s all in your head. You create the crisis in your head. Yes, you’ve gotten older but so has everyone else. Literally, there is no one on the planet not aging. The fact that you panic about it is created by you. You’re the one not seeing the positive impact of aging. You’ve become wise, you know what you like, you know your limitations.
