Making homemade scrubs is kind of like cooking. Once you learn the basics you can experiment with adding different ingredients. With scrubs, most recipes use salt or sugar as a base with some kind of oil to make a paste. Then you can start adding what sounds good – citrus, different fruits, chocolate – they all have amazing benefits for the skin. Scrub recipes often use such yummy ingredients you’re tempted to take a bite.
So why not turn one of my favorite drinks into a scrub? Use the salt and tequila on hand for Cinco de Mayo for a margarita body scrub to exfoliate and moisturize your skin.
To make a margarita body scrub you will need:
- 1/2 cup salt. You can use regular salt, kosher salt or leftover margarita salt.
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1-2 tablespoons tequila
- Juice of 1 lime
Mix all ingredients together in small bowl until you have a paste. Add more olive oil if needed. Then scrub away in the shower. One note of caution – use the scrub before you shave, not after, because it might burn.
The tequila and lime juice are natural antiseptics, the salt exfoliates any dead skin, and the olive oil adds lots of moisture.
Will you be having any margaritas this weekend? I’m planning to!
