Houndstooth Opens in East Austin with Coffee and Cocktails
Less than two months since opening inside two sustainably designed tiny houses in Dallas, roaster/retailer Houndstooth Coffee has further expanded its “pattern of coffee and people” with the opening of its third Austin cafe, and sixth overall, in East Austin.
Currently in a soft-opening phase with a grand opening scheduled for Feb. 10, the 2,200-square-foot shop is the brand’s first to offer a full bar and craft cocktails, taking cues from the company’s sister brand Jettison, a cocktail bar attached to Houndstooth’s Sylvan/Thirty location in Dallas.
The bar will offer custom cocktails such as: the Red Headed Oaxacan, a smoky agave version of a Penicillin, with reposado, mezcal, ginger honey, lemon, and a spray of Bowmore 12 Year Old Scotch Whisky; and the Earl’d Fashion’d with bonded bourbon, orange and Angostura bitters, and maple syrup smoked with Earl Grey tea.
“We’re continually looking for ways to expand the beverage conversation as our brand evolves and grows,” Paul Henry, general manager at Houndstooth Coffee, said in an announcement of the East Austin opening. “With this cafe, we’re excited to bridge the divide between morning and night for our guests and continue our mission to provide delicious drinks and genuine hospitality.”
In addition to the cocktails, beers and wines, the shop will offer espresso through a brushed-steel Mavam system designed to eliminate visual barriers between baristas’ drink preparations and guests, while also reflecting the natural finishes throughout the space, including white oak, quartz, alder and brown leather.
Houndstooth Coffee East Austin is now open at 2823 East Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Austin, Texas.
